Mechanized Unit Load Work In Process Storage System for transformer manufacturing

A Unit Load ASRS

This client had a requirement to store WIP and reserve inventory.  The spatial constraints were such that there was insufficient length for a single aisle.  The rates however were not sufficient to warrant 3 ASR machines.

A “transfer car (T Car)” was utilized to move the ASR machine from aisle to aisle.  The transfer car incorporated a manual sizing station through which fork truck operators “inserted” pallet loads into the Pick-up station.

A scale was incorporated into the Pick-up station conveyors.  The scale would weight a pallet and determine if the pallet was within the weight range limit.  Acceptable pallets would be permitted to enter the storage system.  In the event and overweight pallet was detected, the ASR machine was instructed to remove the pallet from the Pick-up station and immediately transfer the load to the Delivery station for output from the system.
