Order Selection System

Integrated Order Selection and High Density ASRS for a munitions  manufacturer

An Integrated Order Selection and high density REM (Rack Entry Module) Automated Storage and Retrieval System .

The original layout included a Pick to Belt order selection conveyor with medium speed sortation to outbound pallet makeup stations.  Order pickers along either side of the picking belt selected carton, placed a label on the carton and released them to the conveyor.  Cartons are conveyed to the sortation conveyor where cartons are sorted, by customer, to out bound accumulation conveyor lines.

Operators located at the discharge of the outbound conveyors would assemble the various sized cartons onto a pallet for placement onto an awaiting truck.

A high-density storage system utilized 2 ASR machines equipped with Rack Entry Modules in order to obtain the density of storage the client required.

The above layout resulted in project pricing 25% over the economic justification.

Alternative Layout

Improved logistical material flow

The modifications to the output of the picking conveyor, the elimination of the 45 degree spurs at the output of the sorter, and the decreased length of the after sort accumulation conveyors did not affect the throughput nor the reliability of the system.

The above changes to the original layout resulted in reducing the cost by approximately 30%.
